There are two ways you can become a dog groomer in Florida:

1. Complete an official dog grooming program with a comprehensive curriculum to show your dedication and knowledge. This is the recommended option!
2. Get on the job training from an experienced dog groomer, but those without a certification will have a harder time finding a job.

Our Pro Grooming program takes approximately 4 months to complete; the Pet Stylist program takes about 8 months to complete attending full-time.

Dog grooming courses for tuition range from approximately $7,658.93 for the Pro Groomer Program to $11,618.93 for the Pet Stylist Program. This includes the grooming kit, $100 registration fee, and taxes on tools and supplies. Financing and Payment Plans are available to those who qualify.

All students must be at least 18 years of age and provide proof of high school graduation or GED. We can help prospective students obtain documents if they do not have them on-hand. Prior to enrollment, the school requires individuals to interview with the Head Administrator, tour the facility and fill out an “Admissions Questionnaire." Upon acceptance into the program, the student may enroll.

Dog groomer pay will range depending on the setting and area where you practice. According to Glassdoor, Florida groomers make between $39,000 and $61,000 annually.

Dog grooming requires certain physical demands. Ask yourself:

1. Can you stand for long periods at a time?
2. Can you lift pets on and off the grooming table?
3. Can you firmly grasp tools with both hands?
4. Are you comfortable being exposed to dirt, animal hair, dander, and skin conditions?
5. If you are pregnant, have you cleared grooming school with your doctor?

The grooming industry is growing! The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 16% growth in jobs related to animal care – including grooming – between 2022 and 2023, an increase that’s above the average for all occupations. In Florida, this worker deficit is even higher, with Florida Insight predicting a 19% growth in animal care-related services. In addition to helping students secure employment in via traditional paths, like grooming salons and vet offices, we can also assist them follow independent careers, like building mobile grooming businesses. Student are also introduced to the "show circuit" and are invited to attend master classes with some of the country's best competitive groomers and our own annual grooming event, the Freestylin' Grooming Competition.
